Aspectos do Vazio
PonceThis work by Jorge Ponce is divided into two phases: the first consisted of a public performance, where the artist sought to confront unsuspecting passersby with an unusual contemplative experience, subsequently producing a video that highlights the correspondence between breathing and the primordial rhythm of the cosmos. Each breath is a discontinuity between existence and its suspension, a metaphor for the circulation of events, of day and night, of the contraction and expansion of the Universe, of waking and sleeping, in short, of the cycles that constitute the total process we call Life.
The second phase of the work consists of a solitary action. In retreat, one hundred and eight drawings are created which, together with the video projection, will give final form to the exhibition. The exact sum of 180 drawings corresponds to the number of beads in the Buddhist "rosary" (...)
Finally, what unites the practice of drawing with mindfulness meditation is the constant undertaking in shattering form, since, and instead of a surrealistic purpose, the tireless activity of the mind is here seen as a murmur that must necessarily dissipate.
