Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa
07.05.2021 — 09.06.2021

We celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Carpe Diem — Arte e Pesquisa project with ‘a journey through multiples’. We invite you to explore the entirety of the collection from the project's inception, divided into two parts for this occasion. In this ‘VOL I’, the narrative begins with artists who express themselves through abstraction.

In its early days, Carpe Diem's mission was to support national and international artists in their research, inviting them to participate in artistic residencies at the Pombal Palace, the association's former headquarters, with the goal of creating a piece in situ. To leave a mark on the project's history, Carpe Diem challenged artists to create a multiple, which would then become part of the collection we have today. This multiple offers us the opportunity to take a journey through time, revisiting pieces that “ceased to exist,” but which remain alive in this collection.

The uniqueness of each multiple encourages us to take a journey. A multiple allows a piece to be in several places at the same time; in this way, the ideas of the image also travel. As Joseph Beuys shows us through his work, the multiple is proof of the circulation of ideas.

Continuing its mission, Carpe Diem invites 10 users of the Casa do Telhal in Sintra to join the collection, each creating a multiple that will be featured in the exhibitions (a journey through multiples — VOL I and VOL II).
