Jaime Rei

In April 1980, when the Communication and Culture Cooperative began its activities promoting visual arts, the catalog of the exhibition then held—the “1st April Salon”—stated: “This exhibition is an attempt to propose a space for discussion and analysis around painting, communication through images, and the right to artistic expression that belongs to everyone.”

Today, after Rogério Ribeiro brought (November 1981) a bit of his message to our city (“it is about trying to give the world of forms a character that is both poetic and operative”), and after more than 30 artists have exchanged ideas and exhibited their experiences in organizations of the Cooperative, it is Jaime Rei, a 19-year-old from Torres Vedras, who risks confronting the public.

A public that is becoming accustomed to the "space for discussion" surrounding painting, to the emotionality of artistic communication, to the analysis of its thematic potential, and to the healthy and enriching confrontation between various ways of expressing the world that surrounds us and lives within us.
