Exercício de declinação
Isabel BaraonaThe work "Exercício de Declinação" (Exercise of Decline) starts from a set of works created under the influence of Ana Hatherly, for three exhibitions held between 2020 and 2023, with Mafalda Santos and Susana Gaudêncio. There are, perhaps, connections that have deepened over the years. Ana Hatherly is one of the artists who taught me to embrace image-writing or drawing-writing without concern for traditional disciplinary boundaries and immune to others' expectations. When I was younger, incorporating this freedom, in her vocation for the plurality of languages and media, was not immediate. However, this freedom is precious to me because it establishes a life-work ethic. "Exercício de Declinação" comprises a varied set of ink drawings and an artist's book.
