Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultura presents, at the Câmara Clara Gallery, the work of Vasco Torres through the exhibition “Pictorial Derivations”.

Painting since 1980, Vasco Torres has developed an extensive body of work that demonstrates his sensitivity and dedication to artistic expression, which has greatly proliferated due to its consonance with academia.

“Pictorial Derivations” proposes exactly what its title suggests: a continuous exploration of color, stain, and form. The artist invites the observer to embark on a hypnotic journey, navigating and guiding them through high tides and chromatic torrents that cross borders and hinge points. The vibrant stains mark the rhythm of this journey—whether through pictorial fusion or the total contrast and distancing of matter—and dominate the surface of the medium, absorbing the entire area of ​​action. Through broad and effusive brushstrokes that overlap and contrast, the artist reveals the gestural quality that marks the latent movement in his work. The dominant use of warm colors stands out, with particular emphasis on vibrant reds and bright yellows anchored by a dark brown, almost black, base. These characteristics give Vasco Torres' painting a sense of depth and complexity, inviting the viewer to explore the different layers and textures the artist has created.

A resident of Torres Vedras for thirty years, he has followed cultural events with interest, especially those related to painting.

He began his journey into painting in the 1980s as a self-taught artist. Starting with figurative painting, he later became interested in abstract painting. Currently, his work is characterized by the exploration of these two facets of painting.

At the National Society of Fine Arts, he attended courses in Aesthetics Theory and Contemporary Art with Professor David Lopes, Baroque Art with Professor Margarida Calado, and 20th-Century Art with Professor Cristina Azevedo Tavares. In 1999, he had the opportunity to participate in painting classes with the painter António Inverno. In 2003, he studied Modern and Contemporary Art at the Belém Cultural Center with Professor Bárbara Coutinho. In 2004, she attended the "Aesthetics - Art and Metaphysics Course," based on Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, at ARCO in Lisbon, with Professor Nuno Crespo.

In 2005, she attended the courses "The Value of Art," with Professor Eric Amouroux, and "Fundamental Aspects and Concepts of Contemporary Art in the Map of Current Culture," with Professor Sandra Vieira Jürgens, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She completed a Postgraduate course in Contemporary Art History at the Catholic University of Porto in the 2006/2007 academic year. She was a Master's student in Contemporary Art at the same university in the 2007/2009 academic year. In 2011, at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Fine Arts, she attended the Etching/Aquatint Engraving Course with Professor Joana Latka. In 2019, she was a finalist in the master's program in visual arts at ESAD (Instituto Politécnico de Leiria) in Caldas da Rainha.
