As Árvores
Patrícia SobreiroI remember being little, and on every trip south in July, I would sit glued to the window of my father's car, observing the cork oaks, olive trees, and holm oaks that abound in the Alentejo plains.
I was fascinated; in silence… And in that silence I imagined incredible anthropomorphic forms: dancing bodies, suffering bodies, lovers' bodies, animal bodies, in short, Life… This observation is a permanent fascination and did not die with the end of childhood.
“Trees are the arms that hold up the Sky.”
This shared phrase became, from that day on, the seed of this exhibition. This set of paintings is thus an exploration of techniques around the essence and form of the Tree. That's all, nothing more. Its roots, trunk, branches, leaves, and also all the poetry that is sometimes inherent to it. The Tree as leitmotif. The Tree as a proposal of different possible paths to travel…
