40 Years. Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultura is an exhibition celebrating four decades of an institution that has existed since the city's founding.

Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultura was founded in 1979 with the ambition of creating a cultural project for Torres Vedras that has far surpassed its borders. Forty years later, the Cooperative's fundamental role in uncompromising programming is evident. Its expertise lies in addressing the practice of all forms of local culture with a didactic and democratic approach, and its relentless pursuit of dialogue between the controversial and the authentic expressions of the common people.

This experience is driven by the pleasure of risk, viewing culture as an exercise, exposing others to the practice of culture. Only in this way can doors be opened for Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultura to contribute to a broader field of reflection in the future. Today, more than a search for identity, or the inevitability of living amidst the fleeting events of daily life, the Cooperativa is a fundamental institution in the city's cultural life, aware of its interventionist role, conscious of its cultural and civic responsibility, and naturally continuing its work in the urgency of freedom and being free.

The exhibition features four authors who collaborated with the institution – Antero Valério, Jaime Ceia, Nuno Vasa, and Telmo Martins – representing four decades of what is, in synthesis, the result of a much broader intervention by the Cooperativa de Comunicação e Cultura over that time.
